All
individuals are affected by
environmental
"insults" (i.e.
toxins) in our lives.
However, our autistic kids
are affected exponentially more
due to their common gut problems
and the fact that they cannot
detoxify toxins like a typical
child might. Additionally,
for any child, they are much
more sensitive, generally
speaking, to toxin amounts due
to the child's smaller size. Therefore, it
is important to try and minimize
your child's exposure to
toxins. This means
everything from the food that
you eat, building materials in
your house, household cleaners that
you use and treatments that you
put on your lawn. |

Cleaning
Supplies: The best way
to clean most things is with
water and vinegar. Or, you
can use any host of
"environmentally safe"
cleaners Be careful,
however. There are plenty
of companies making claims that
their products are
"safe," when they are
not. Some products that are
truly safe are Melaleuca (which
we can help you with) and
Seventh Generation, among
others.
Carpet
Cleaners: Find a
carpet cleaner in your area that
uses a dry method of cleaning,
using non-toxic agents.
Or, buy a carpet cleaner
yourself and use a natural
cleaning solution.
However, you MUST be careful
with wet cleaners, as it is
possible that they might cause
mold to grow, which many people
are allergic to.
Healthy
Lawn & Garden supplies:
Another area that people
overlook is the exposure that
their kids have to chemicals on
today's lawns. Yes, the
lawn signs say "Don't Allow
Children or Pets to Be Exposed
for 12/24 hours."
However, I am also a scientist
by training and I KNOW that
these signs typically only take
into account the drying time of
the chemical. If a child
has wet feet from a sprinkler,
or it rains, guess what has
returned? Putting
it all together If
you really want to help your
family, consider minimizing the
toxins in your home by not using
paints, sealants or adhesives
that offgas Volatile Organic
Compounds (VOCs). Or,
don't bring materials into your
home, like pressed board
furniture, that contains high
levels of offgassing VOCs.

home, contact our healthy
